Program Characteristics
1. Name of QuarkNet center: Indiana University 2. Names of teachers at the center (list): David Blair Matthew Hitchings
3. Brief description of each teachers' assignment/task/project (including focus of the research and how each teacher will contribute to the overall research): David Blair: In the context of a new "Hall D" project and detector planned at Jefferson Lab, studies and measurements of calorimeter prototypes containing heavy liquid (LST). Compare transmission and quantum efficiency of water and LST. Matt Hitchings: Focus of research was on the design, fabrication, and testing of multi-channel fiber optic waveguides to be used to carry light from the scintillating fiber tracker and preshower calorimeters of the upgrade DØ detector at Fermilab. Contribute towards design and construction of light flasher box; measurements of light transmission and attenuation length of fibers.
