Information on the fiber punch

We have a new punch that was made by Ontario Die.Mr. Al Fiddler did the design.

The punch consists of three pieces.

a perimeter cut and 9 alignment holes

followed by two dies that each cut about one half of the remaining holes.

The following is a series of pictures taken at Breiner Co. in Avon, IN on Friday,March 1, 1996 with William Lucas, jr, Ken Estridge, and crew.

D. Rust and H. Ogren, brought up the 3 part punch and the roll of fiber material that we got from CERN.

They first experimented with the old two element punch, to find out a workable way to cut and extract the fiber pieces. This was done on a traveling head click punch- 30 tons.Paper backing was used between the polypropylene cutting block and the fiber.

Then they switched to the three individual punches that we now are going to use for the full scale protoypes radiators. This punch was a traveling head click punch- 50 tons. It was found that a four layer fiber blank could be easily cut with allof the tools.
